Just in time for next month's crush of Sony marketing for Jon Watts' Spider-Man Homecoming, Marvel is releasing a new companion comic to the flagship Amazing Spider-Man series. Peter Parker: The Spectacular Spider-Man #1 shoots into comic shops on June 21, written by Chip Zdarsky (Star Lord) and paired with art by Adam Kubert (Wolverine, Uncanny X-Men).

Check out the official description and three-page preview in the gallery below, with Peter retelling his origin story to an annoyed Human Torch atop a skyscraper, and let us know if this additional monthly dose of the wisecracking web-slinger might be worth checking out. We already have a good bit of Spider-stories out there, but with the flagship series taking a more global approach to storytelling, it'll be great to see a run that gets back to the nitty-gritty of being a friendly neighborhood Spider-Man.

The webslinging, wallcrawling wonder returns to New York City in the all-new PETER PARKER: THE SPECTACULAR SPIDER-MAN. A companion series to the best-selling Amazing Spider-Man series, Peter Parker is going back-to-basics for big heroics in the Big Apple. Featuring adversaries old and new, be there as Spider-Man returns to his friendly neighborhood for his never ending battle against crime and the dreaded “Parker Luck”.
