Due to the events of Marvel Comics’ Civil War II event, most of the Guardians of the Galaxy have found themselves stuck on Earth. So how is Peter Quill spending his time?
The publisher is gearing up to relaunch Star-Lord’s solo series with the excellent creative team of Chip Zdarsky (Howard the Duck) and Kris Anka (Captain Marvel), which will follow Quill as he’s grounded on Earth after the Guardians’ ship was torched during Civil War II. In the first look at the new run, it seems things aren’t great between Earth’s deep space protectors, and Quill is moping around on Earth (shirtless, of course). Agent Brand gets a nice nod here, along with a hilarious cameo from Howard the Duck.
Zdarsky’s tenure on Howard the Duck was a weird, hilarious romp — so we can’t wait to see what he does with Quill. Just judging by the first few pages here, it looks to have the same acerbic sense of humor as Zdarsky’s Howard the Duck run, and a bit of the same vibe as Matt Fraction’s seminal Hawkeye series (which largely followed the hero when he wasn’t superhero-ing).
The first issue of Star-Lord hits shelves Dec. 21.
