Peyton Reed thinks Wasp should lead an all-female Avengers

He may be a little biased, but filmmaker Peyton Reed believes Hope Van Dyne, a.k.a. the Wasp, would be the perfect leader for an all-female Avengers.

Speaking with Huffington Post, the director of 2015's Ant-Man and this summer's Ant-Man and the Wasp was asked what role he thought the Wasp would play as part of an all-female Avengers team. Since Reed has worked closely with actress Evangeline Lilly and the whole Marvel Studios creative team in bringing the Wasp to the screen, his answer was not terribly surprising:

"I’d like her running things. I’d like to see her as the head of the all-female Avengers. I know Evangeline sort of said...maybe that would be Captain Marvel, because she does have the word 'captain' in her name. But I think Hope van Dyne is a very decisive leader and a tactician, in addition to being a brilliant scientist. So she checks a lot of boxes in terms of who’s going to be running the Avengers, theoretically."

The Wasp does indeed possess many of the qualities that a leader of the Avengers should have, but Captain Marvel is one of the most powerful beings in the Marvel Universe, so it could be a close decision between the two.

Lilly has expressed her enthusiasm for an all-female team, something that's been speculated about since last year when the subject was first broached by Thor: Ragnarok star Tessa Thompson. But after initially showing interest in taking charge of it, Lilly said that she thinks Carol Danvers would be the right woman for the job:

"Well, it seems only natural Captain Marvel would lead because she is a general? And she's the captain. And Captain America leads the other Avengers, right, so maybe Captain Marvel would lead."

Of course, before anyone even starts thinking about the man-free version of the Avengers, the universe has to be set right again in next year's Avengers 4. (Spoiler warning here) After all, Hope and her mother Janet (Michelle Pfeiffer) were turned to dust at the end of Ant-Man and the Wasp by Thanos' snap, along with other key Marvel heroines like Scarlet Witch and Mantis.

We know very little about the next phase of Marvel movies, so once the universe is reconfigured after Avengers 4, we'll see if that all-female team-up comes to pass. Who do you think should lead it? Should it be the Wasp? Captain Marvel? Shuri? Pepper Potts?
