There’s been a nasty rumor going around that Man of Steel would make a massive change to the Superman mythos. Luckily, co-star Russell Crowe is here to set the record straight.
Crowe co-stars as Superman’s father, Jor El, who sends his son to Earth for hiding and survival after Krypton is destroyed. At least that’s the classic setup from the comics, though a new rumor making the rounds has indicated that Krypton might be left standing in the new movie.
The report had fanboys up in arms, considering that has been a pretty major part of the mythos since the character first appeared in 1938. But not to worry — Crowe has posted a snarky little bit to Twitter in an effort to set the record straight:
ahem...as I was saying...my name is Jor El, of Krypton, as my planet dies I send 2 you my son, Kal. So he may live. He will arrive June 14— Russell Crowe (@russellcrowe) May 4, 2013
So, there you have it. From the man himself, the “planet dies.” So long, Krypton!
Are you glad to hear director Zack Snyder didn’t make this change, or would you prefer he do whatever is necessary to effectively tell the best story?
