Pick up a Nintendo Switch console with August's deals

The end of summer is upon us! It’s hard to overstate how exciting that is; I’m looking forward to cooler, less humid temperatures. But I do enjoy the last lazy days of summer that give me some time to relax before getting into the rush of fall. This, of course, means that my Switch will be getting a good workout over the next month or two.

Before I dive into the deals, let’s discuss some new game releases in August for the Switch. The indie darling Gone Home is available on the Nintendo eShop starting August 23, while Overcooked 2, the popular cooking competition game, was released earlier this month. The game Dragon Ball FighterZ might not be out until September, but you can play in Bandai Namco’s open beta this month.

The deals

If you haven’t picked up a Nintendo Switch yet, Best Buy is running a deal you may want to take a look at. Through August 25, you can snag a Nintendo Switch console plus the game Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle. At that price, it’s like getting the game for free.

You can also grab a new Nintendo Switch plus a Nintendo Labo Kit (the cardboard kits that allow you to do more with your handheld console) for $339 over at Wal-Mart through August 25. That means you can save about half off the cost of a Labo kit ($39.99).

If you already have a Switch but are interested in Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle, you’re in luck there too! The Nintendo eShop has the game on sale for $29.99, down from $59.99. You can also snag Just Dance 2017 and Just Dance 2018 for the same price through August 27.

Splatoon 2 is on sale over at Amazon for $44.99, down from $59.99. This is one of the Nintendo Switch’s most popular games, and it’s perfect if you like competing with your friends. It will be interesting to see if/how Splatoon 2 changes once the online service goes live next month.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is also on sale for the same price at Amazon. If you haven’t played this game yet, I don’t know how to convince you to pick it up, but you should. It’s become one of my favorite games of all time.

If you’re a fan of South Park, the video game South Park: The Fractured But Whole is on sale for $29.99 at the Nintendo eShop. It’s normally $59.99.

Both The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Super Mario Odyssey are $15 off at Best Buy. It’s not clear when this deal expires, so if you’re in the market for either of these games, I’d order them in a hurry.

Through August 25, you can grab the LEGO version of The Incredibles for $40.19 from the Nintendo eShop, which is down from $59.99. These LEGO versions of games are always a good time!

If arcade-style games are your jam, look no further than Black Hole. It’s a space shooter with 40 levels, and it’s on sale for $2.99 (down from $5.99) at the Nintendo eShop.

I love RPGs, so I’ve also had my eye on Cosmic Star Heroine which combines traditional fantasy-style RPGs with a sci-fi setting. The discount isn’t much — $14.19, down from $14.99 — but it might just be enough to convince me to finally buy this game.
