Two Fantastic Four casting rumors that really ARE fantastic

Does the Fantastic Four franchise really need rebooting? Twentieth Century Fox seems to think so, and the movie's next on the studio's plate following X-Men: First Class. After learning that the Thing was going to be CGI all the way and hearing rumours that Alice Eve was up for the part of Sue Storm, we're now finding out that two major actors are up for the part of Mr. Fantastic.

Adrien Brody (Predators) and Jonathan Rhys Meyers (The Tudors) are both reported to be under consideration by the studio to play the part of Reed Richards, the leader of the Fantastic Four, who was previously portrayed by Ioan Gruffudd in the first two movies.

Brody had two major sci-fi roles this summer in the Predators movie and Splice, which have made the Oscar-winning actor into a hot sci-fi movie commodity, so much so that his name has even been associated with the lead role in Edgar Wright's Ant-Man.

As for Rhys Meyers, he has appeared in From Paris With Love and has seen his reign as King Henry VIII recently end in the last season of The Tudors. The actor is also rumored to return for Mission: Impossible IV.

Brody and Rhys Meyers are definitely great actors, and both are interesting choices for the role of Reed Richards, though physically Brody may have the advantage to play the stretchy hero. But it's clear that the studio is looking for top-quality actors to fill the role, and it's a direction we definitely applaud.

After what we learned this weekend about X-Men: First Class from producer Bryan Singer himself, we're pretty much psyched about the Fantastic Four reboot. And with the names of Brody and Rhys Meyers being bandied about for Mr. Fantastic, our level of interest is certainly rising.

The rebooted Fantastic Four movie is set to hit theaters during the summer of 2012.

Do you like the idea of possibly having either Adrian Brody or Jonathan Rhys Meyers play the role of Mr. Fantastic? And if not—who would you rather see in the role?
