It’s been two years since Resident Evil: Retribution opened, and after plans to shoot its sequel back-to-back fell apart, we’ve been left wondering about the fate of Resident Evil 6. Until now.
While speaking at the Beijing International Film Festival, director Paul W.S. Anderson was asked about his next project — and confirmed that work will be starting very soon on the next installment in his long-running Resident Evil franchise. It also sounds like he’s let the title slip out as well.
Here’s the excerpt via Movie Web:
“I have to go home tomorrow for Rising Resident Evil. That's what I'm going to do. As you know, Bingbling is in the last movie and she will be there again.”
Now, we’re going to assume the words got flipped as part of the international translation, and think Anderson probably said Resident Evil Rising is the title of the sixth installment. The actress Anderson is referring to is Bingbing Li, who will reprise her role as Ada Wong in the sequel.
According to The Tracking Board, Rising will follow Alice (played by Milla Jovovich) and her team as they return to where the saga started, the Hive, where the Red Queen is plotting the annihilation of the human race. Anderson has hinted before that this could be his last romp through the zombified world, and taking it back to the Hive would be a nice way to close the narrative.
The sequel was originally announced to open later this year, but that looks pretty unlikely. Our money is on a 2015 release date.
Are you glad to hear Resident Evil is alive and well?
