Smart speakers like Google Home and Amazon's Alexa devices are good for all sorts of things. You can order food, listen to your favorite playlist and even ask about the weather, all with your voice while you're doing the dishes or shaving. But now, perhaps the most important development in the budding smart speaker industry has been announced: You will soon be able to use them to talk to Pikachu. Yes, really.

The Pokemon Company announced this week that it will launch "Pikachu Talk," a new app that will be compatible with both Google Home and Amazon Alexa devices. The app will reportedly be free, and will launch outside of Japan sometime next year, according to The Verge.

Pikachu Talk is, reportedly, exactly what it sounds like. You activate it and it talks to you like Pikachu. That means you're not going to get helpful weather or scheduling advice, but you will get adorable "Pika Pika!" and "Pikaaaa!" shouts sent back in your direction. It's not exactly practical, but if you grew up loving that adorable yellow creature, it could be a lot of fun.
