It was born from a great place, but the McDonald’s PR team may have bit off a bit more than it could chew with Rick and Morty fans. Inspired by the popular Adult Swim series, the fast food chain recently offered customers a *very* limited supply of Szechuan sauce. The condiment, which was originally sold in 1998 for Disney’s Mulan, appeared in the Season 3 premiere of Rick and Morty and plays a key role in the show's story.
Well, turns out there were a whole lot more fans than there was special sauce.
Saturday, we reported that the McDonald’s promo was met with an overwhelming demand from fans of the show. So much so, that police were called to regulate the restless crowds. The Szechuan sauce became available at 2:00 pm and a Wellington, FL location ran out within 30 minutes. Two sheriff’s deputies were called in to ease tension within the disgruntled crowd.
Southern Palm Beach reporter, Lulu Ramadan, tweeted, “Cops are at Wellington McDonalds where tons of angry people lined up for hrs for Rick and Morty Szechuan sauce only to learn they had none.”

Unfortunately, it didn’t stop there. Social media was filled with on-site photos and reports from multiple locations where officers were present.
McDonald's went on to release a statement apologizing for their less than stellar rollout.
"The best fans in the multiverse showed us what they got today. We hear you & we're sorry not everyone could get some super-limited Szechuan."
