Poltergeist remake director Gil Kenan has been tapped by Warner Bros. to helm Five Nights at Freddy’s, a live-action big-screen adaptation of the extremely popular videogame series.
Created by Scott Cawthon in 2014, Five Nights at Freddy’s takes place in a fictional pizza place called "Freddy Fazbear's Pizza" where an animatronic animal part of the house band becomes a demented, homicidal murderer at night.
Players, who are locked inside the restaurant, have to survive the killing spree of the murderous machine and his furry buddies for five nights in the role of a security guard. The popular horror survival game allows players to see what’s coming their way thanks to security cameras that warn of the impending danger.
Deadline reports that Gil Kenan will also pen the script with Tyler Burton Smith. Poltergeist producer Roy Lee is producing with Seth Grahame-Smith (of Pride and Prejudice and Zombies fame) and David Katzenberg. Adam Stone and Jay Ireland are executive-producing, with Jon Berg and Nik Mavinkurve overseeing for Warner Bros.
Do you think Gil Kenan is the perfect fit for a live-action version of Five Nights at Freddy’s?
