It's the most frightening time of the year, so check out this new clip from the latest episode of Hulu's monthly holiday horror series, Into the Dark, which introduces the world to the newest toy craze, Pooka!
Each new movie-length episode of the Blumhouse TV anthology riffs on that month's particular holiday. So, October's installment was Halloween-centric, while November's had a Thanksgiving theme — and now "Pooka" is here to help celebrate Into the Dark's very special Christmas episode.
The aptly-titled "Pooka" follows a struggling actor, played by Nyasha Hatendi, who lands a gig being the official mascot for the toy. However, like the doll he's shown, the Pooka! suit he starts to wear has a personality all its own, and it slowly starts to take over his life.
If Pooka weren't terrifying enough on his own — just look at that thing! — it's also revealed to be some kind of sentient being who listens to everything that's said, but only repeats back what it wants. And since the doll comes equipped with its own "Nice" and "Naughty" settings, it's a safe bet that the full-size Pooka suit does, too. In case you're wondering how else this situation could possibly go wrong.
The ambitious series comes from producer Jason Blum's Blumhouse TV, and came about after Hulu's success with their Margaret Atwood adaptation The Handmaid's Tale. Now, the streaming platform has been developing a slew of new genre-related programming, including a horror-themed October they dubbed 'Huluween.'
Into the Dark's third episode, "Pooka," is available to stream on Hulu now. Will a brand-new Pooka end up under your Christmas tree this year? Let us know in the comments.
