Pop culture's most iconic monsters become ancient pictograms in this Maya glyph-inspired artwork

Mexican-based artist Monarobot is putting an old-school spin on pop culture; we're talking really old-school here.

Their MO is taking famous monsters of pop culture and turning them into hieroglyph-looking pieces of art that wouldn't look out of place in an ancient Mayan or Aztec temple in Mesoamerica.

In fact, history class would have been a heck of a lot more interesting if these were genuine artifacts, drawn by civilizations long gone by. And hey, if the world had ended in 2012 with the arrival of these terrifying behemoths, we wouldn't even be angry. That honestly even sounds kinda awesome.

So far, Monarobot's tackled creatures and characters from Pokemon, AlienAliens, Godzilla, Star WarsPrincess Mononoke, and How to Train Your Dragon. They also create original monster-related artworks that aren't related to established properties.
