The Portal stars Tahmoh Penikett as a wizard lost in our mundane world. Really.

The bad news is, Tahmoh is not cut out to be on Game of Thrones. But there's a silver lining here, and it's a pretty darn funny one.

Since he landed the role of Captain Karl "Helo" Agathon on Battlestar Galactica, Tahmoh Penikett has been working. A lot. He is such a steadily working actor that, at this point, every time I check out a new show, I take bets on how long it'll take before he shows up in at least one episode.

But he's usually the straight man, the serious guy, the strong dude who'll stop at nothing to meet his goals. That's the Penikett wheelhouse, if you will. And so, typically, he doesn't really do comedy.

He really should, though. And this trailer for a short film called The Portal, in which Penikett plays a dimension-traveling wizard who gets trapped in the 21st century, is proof of that.

There are many things to love here -- Penikett's terrible, faux British accent, the costume he looks like he stole from the set of Arrow (a show he was totally in for one episode), the way Tahmoh plays the whole thing straight to hilarious effect ... it's just way better than it has any right to be by every possible metric.

And huge bonus points that his potential (one assumes) love interest is played by Erin Karpluk, who starred in the criminally underappreciated Being Erica.

Apparently the intention is to turn this short into a full series. Well, I, for one, am game. How about you?
