Telltale's The Walking Dead game series comes to an end this year after six years and four seasons of horror, heartbreak, and personal growth for our hero Clementine. The studio has released a 15-minute game play preview to get fans excited for The Final Season.
The episodic interactive adventure game started in 2012 with Clementine as a kid being taught how to survive the zombie apocalypse by a hardened veteran. Now Clementine is the one with all the experience, passing on what she knows to a smart young orphan named AJ. The series skips ahead from the end of The Walking Dead's third season, and voice actor Melissa Hutchison returns as Clementine.
The tense 15-minute preview shows Clem and AJ on a search for food and water, which exposes them to the sort of small, sad story that gives The Walking Dead its pathos. Then, of course, all heck breaks loose. Check it out below.
Despite the name, The Final Season may not mark the end of the Walking Dead video games, but Telltale says it will be the last game with Clementine in a leading role. That makes this a tough year for fans of the franchise, with Andrew Lincoln's Rick confirmed to also end his journey on the upcoming ninth season of the TV show. Both game and show are based on the comic book series by Robert Kirkman and Charlie Adlard.
The four episodes of The Walking Dead: The Final Season kick off on August 14 on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One, with a Nintendo Switch release planned for later in the year. The season can be pre-ordered for $19.99.
