We all know that President Obama is one of us: He reads comic books (or did before having to prioritize national security briefings), digs sci-fi and takes campaign pictures in front of Superman statues. But when he met with Nichelle Nichols at the White House, he also showed off his Trek creds.

Apparently Nicholls visited the White House during Black History Month, and when she got her audience with President Obama, neither could resist flashing the Vulcan salute for the cameras. And when she got the photo, she broadcast it via Twitter.

In other Head Geek in Charge news, President Obama visited Carnegie Mellon's National Robotics Engineering Center and snuck the following into a speech he gave there:

"You might not know this, but one of my responsibilities as commander-in-chief is to keep an eye on robots. And I'm pleased to report that the robots you manufacture here seem peaceful—at least for now."

Regardless of your politics, you've gotta admit: No other president has been able to walk the walk and talk the talk. His nerd bona fides are solid.
