Seth MacFarlane's space-faring comedy series, The Orville, recruited an impressive number of new fans for Fox as it concluded its first 12-episode season on December 7.
While its viewing numbers were not stratospheric, they remained consistent and were solid enough (8.6 million for its premiere) for the network to approve a second season which will air sometime in September of 2018.
"Once again Seth has struck a powerful chord with viewers," announced Fox Broadcasting president Michael Thorn. "He has delivered a series full of optimism, drama and his trademark humour. We want to thank him and the rest of the talented cast, as well as the producers and crew, for an incredible first season. We can't wait to see where The Orville travels in the second."
