Princess strong, New Moon slips

Box-office results for the weekend showed pretty good grosses for Disney's animated The Princess and the Frog, which pulled in a respectable $25 million, while the tweeny-bopper juggernaut that had been The Twilight Saga: New Moon slipped by almost 48 percent from the previous week's haul to pull in just $8 million, according to Box Office Mojo. Not to fret, Twi-hards ... the total take for the second adaptation of a crazily successful Stephenie Meyer vampire romance novel is still more than $260 million in the U.S. alone. Two feel-good sports movies, The Blind Side and Clint Eastwood's Invictus, outgrossed New Moon in the number 2 and number 3 spots, respectively, which is almost certainly the first time in the history of cinema that a movie about rugby has trounced a vampire movie. Note that in the record books, folks.

Other genre flicks in the top 10 over the weekend include the CG-animated A Christmas Carol at number 5, destruction stalwart Roland Emmerich's 2012 at number 7 and Ninja Assassin at number 10. Of note is the heist thriller Armored, directed by the guy making the new Predators movie, Nimrod Antal, which came in at number 9.
