Though Marvel has owned the box office as of late, DC still has the edge in the animated film department. The Avengers gang hopes to change it with flicks like this.

The first trailer for Avengers Confidential: Black Widow and Punisher has been released, offering up a look at Marvel’s latest anime-styled animated project that starts to dig a little deeper into the comic company’s catalog. The flick features the voice talents of Jennifer Carpenter and Brian Bloom.

Confidential finds the Punisher picked up by S.H.I.E.L.D. after he interferes with a mission; then Nick Fury teams him up with Black Widow to go after the terrorist organization Leviathan. The shady baddies are out to sell S.H.I.E.L.D. technology, but Punisher and Black Widow are there to make sure the tech doesn’t fall into the wrong hands.

It’s nice to see that Marvel is making a bigger push into the animated market, and the anime approach is a nice twist to differentiate from some of DC’s bigger releases. Here’s hoping this one will be yet another step in translating that box-office mojo to the small screen.

The movie will be released on Blu-ray, DVD and digital services on March 25.
