Puppet. Nazis. Yes, the reboot of the surprisingly sturdy Puppet Master series (which had its start in the late ‘80s and continued in various iterations until last year’s Puppet Master: Axis Termination) is very real and very, very crazy.
The series, about a plethora of (not necessarily, but often) antagonistic puppets brought to life by various evil spells, gets a gory reimagining from Bone Tomahawk and Brawl in Cell Block 99 director S. Craig Zahler, who wrote the screenplay to the upcoming Puppet Master: The Littlest Reich — which recently debuted its first bloody trailer.
Check it out:
Co-directed by filmmakers Sonny Laguna and Tommy Wiklund, the film takes place in an alternate universe from the regular series chronology and features a slew of cult favorite actors like Thomas Lennon, Udo Kier, and the legendary Barbara Crampton. The movie did gangbusters at the Dallas International Film Fest, where its unapologetic kills and downright absurdity won over fans of midnight movie schlock. Then again, it’s living Nazi puppets stabbing anyone they can get their tiny porcelain hands on. What’s not to like?
Puppet Master: The Littlest Reich simultaneously hits select U.S. theaters and VOD services on Aug. 17.
