To know Neil Gaiman’s works is to love them. Sandman. Good Omens. Neverwhere. American Gods. They’re all chilling, engrossing stories about smart people fighting way above their pay grade. But unless you’re a Gaiman completist, chances are you’ve never read his more obscure works. Here’s your chance.
Humble Bundle (formerly the Humble Indie Bundle) is a site that allows you to pay what you want for content such as ebooks, video games, and music. Yes, I said, “pay what you want.” But if you pay more than the current average of $19.34, you get all of Gaiman’s works on offer.
According to the Nerdist, “Included in this bundle are books published early in Gaiman’s career that have become valued collector’s items: never before collected works from anthologies, barely published books with small prints runs, and some never published at all. This includes short stories, essays, comics, music biography, poems, teleplays, prose fiction, and even lyrics and speeches. According to the folks at Humble Bundle, “if it’s in this bundle, chances are you’ve never read it.”
Writings include the original Babylon 5 screenplay, “Day of the Dead”; the unfinished graphic novel Sweeney Todd and Other Stories; and his first book…a non-fiction work about British '80s pop sensation Duran Duran.
For those who like to browse before they buy, each of the items on offer comes with a preview, so you can see what you’re getting before you get it. But completists should know that even more items will be unlocked on September 16. The sale ends on September 23, 2015, 11 AM PST.
The Humble Bundle also lets you put your dollars toward charity. In this case, the charities are the Comic Book Legal Defense Fund and The Moth Education Program (one my favorite storytelling podcasts). According to the Nerdist, however, “All of Neil Gaiman’s personal proceeds from this bundle will benefit The Gaiman Foundation, a private foundation that funds free speech, education, and civil rights charities.”
This means Gaiman isn't just a wonderful writer. He's a stand-up guy as well. Buy his Humble Bundle here.
