Rare Star Wars props and other Geek Treasures hit the auction block

Wait 'til they get a load of this auction.

The British auction house Prop Store just announced the pop culture treasure trove going under the gavel at its next auction on September 26, and it is full of classic geek artifacts that will no doubt prove ridiculously expensive. That includes a screen-used model miniature Y-Wing from Return of the Jedi that is expected to hammer at close to $250,000, an Alien creature costume from Aliens, and even Bill Murray's hero jumpsuit from Ghostbusters.

Some of our favorite things in the auction include Jack Nicholson's Joker costume from Tim Burton's Batman. Because who doesn't need a purple double-breasted suit?

The auction also includes various props from classic franchises. Superman's flying tunic, worn by the late Christopher Reeve in Superman IV: The Quest for Peace, is also going up for sale. So are Marty McFly's light-up Nike "2015" sneakers from Back to the Future II. Let's face it, aside from the DeLorean, this is THE prop to own from the BTTF trilogy. Go ahead and liquidate the 401(k) and sign the papers on that second mortgage, they're totally worth it!

If you're interested in items of a more recent vintage, how about the Mjolnir hammer Chris Hemsworth used in the first Thor solo film? Is that something you might be interested in? If you prefer another Chris in the Marvel Universe, Peter Quill's helmet worn in Guardians of the Galaxy by Chris Pratt is also up for grabs.

Other items of note include Arnold Schwarzenegger's screen costume from Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines, Will Ferrell's "Buddy" costume from Elf, and a bullwhip used by Harrison Ford in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.  How much will Indy's whip go for? You know what they say, "If you have to ask ..."

And while all these items will likely set you back tens of thousands of dollars -- the Indy whip is expected to sell for close to $100K --  the auction also has some stuff that the rest of us mere mortals actually have a shot at. For example, a deck of playing cards used in Daniel Craig's first outing as James Bond, Casino Royale, is expected to fetch a few hundred dollars. There are also several Harry Potter movie crew items autographed by Daniel Radcliffe that are likely to sell for three figures.
