The countdown to Star Wars Force Friday isn't just about the toys, but all manner of Star Wars releases, books, games, and apps among them. A new augmented reality game was announced earlier today, and now we have our first peek at Delilah S. Dawson's novel, Phasma, which will be released Sept. 1 as part of the Journey to Star Wars: The Last Jedi publishing program.
StarWars.com has published an excerpt of the novel that gives us more history about "one of the most cunning and merciless officers of the First Order, Captain Phasma" (portrayed in Star Wars: The Force Awakens by Gwendoline Christie). The excerpt begins with Phasma on her home world of Parnassos, a dangerous world with "spires of black rock, jagged cliffs, ledges, caves, and occasional tide pools." It definitely sounds like a planet that either kills you or makes you tougher.
As you read on, there are insights into both Phasma's warrior prowess and her choice of armor as she and other members of the Scyre (her clan, perhaps?) come upon the wreckage of an escape pod, and of passengers being pulled from that wreckage by the Claw (rivals to the Scyre). Among those passengers is a man wearing "finely woven clothes of a smooth, uniform black and tall, shiny boots ... with pale-white skin and red hair going gray at the edges." There are also several stormtroopers, and a rather recognizable droid model.
What happens next? Head over to StarWars.com to read the excerpt for yourself, then let us know if you'll be reading on when the book drops next month.
