Tonight, The Game Awards celebrated the best that video games had to offer this past year. They also sprung a few surprise trailers on the crowd as well, giving viewers something to look forward to in the weeks and months to come.
To little surprise, Rockstar's epic Red Dead Redemption 2 did pretty well, considering it was tied for the most nominations with God of War this year. By the end of the night, the sprawling western took home Best Narrative, Best Audio, Best Score for Woody Jackson, and Roger Clark took home Best Performance for his role as Arthur Morgan.
God of War did pretty well, too, taking home Best Direction and Best Action-Adventure Game, as well as the big one, Game of the Year.
Other big winners included the widely popular Fortnight for Best Ongoing Game and Best Multiplayer Game, Dead Cells took home Best Action Game, and Monster Hunter: World won for Best Role-Playing Game. The indie title Celeste took home a Games for Impact award for its portrayal of mental illness, as well as Best Independent Game.
Best Strategy game went to Winner: Into the Breach, and Dragon Ball Fighterz took home Best Fighting Game, while Art Direction went to Return of Obra Din.
Additionally, Florence was awarded Best Mobile Game, Overcooked 2 got Best Family Game, and Astro Bot Rescue Mission scored Best AR/VR Game.
