Sir Patrick Stewart has become a geek hero as much for his personality as for his performances (Captain Picard in Star Trek: The Next Generation; Professor Charles Xavier in the X-Men series). His many, many fans (he has almost 2 million Twitter followers) got to know more about the man behind the telepathic mutant’s/starship captain’s chair in a recent Reddit AMA.

When asked about his favorite Next Generation episode, the former Yorkshireman confirmed what we already knew:

“[M]y favorite episode is “Inner Light.” It was a beautiful script, which for me was almost entirely located away from the Enterprise - and it’s crew! And because I was given the chance to perform what Picard would have been like if his life experience had been different.”

Stewart also enjoyed "The Inner Light" because his son Daniel played the role of his onscreen son.

(Redditors pointed out that the Ressikan flute Stewart had played in the episode was auctioned off. Wikipedia says that the flute was initially priced at $300 -- but ultimately sold for $48,000.)

And when asked, “What is the best thing about playing the role of Professor X?” Stewart responded, “Great costumes in every film, but I loved my superhero costume and my flying chair in ‘Days of Future Past.’ The chair actually levitated, but only a few inches.”

Other fun facts about Stewart include: He likes Yorkshire Gold tea and enjoys pinot noir wine from Oregon. His favorite sandwich is apples on buttered white bread. He prefers Jonathan Frakes with a beard because it tickles when they kiss. Oh, and if he had hair, he would want a mullet. (Redditor Root Hudson made it so.)

Want more details? Check out the AMA. And curse the fact that you missed getting to ask him a question. (I know I do.)
