What better way to celebrate the Golden Globes this evening than with a new ad for Disney's A Wrinkle in Time? As Hollywood prepares to advertise its favorite films and TV shows of the past year, Reese Witherspoon (Mrs. Whatsit) shows off her favorite planet in the galaxy to the film's heroes, Meg Murry (Storm Reid) and Calvin O'Keefe (Levi Miller). "No offense to Earth," she adds dryly.
With much of the footage we've seen in previous trailers, this spot continues to deliver on the movie's promise of acid trip-like visuals, and we mean that in the best way possible. Based on the previews alone, the film looks like a gorgeously rendered experience that will satisfy the audience member looking for an extra-dimensionally cosmic good time.
Based on Madeleine L'Engle's 1962 novel of the same name, A Wrinkle in Time is about an astrophysicist, Dr. Alex Murry (Chris Pine), who goes missing while studying inter-dimensional travel across great distances. As he's held captive by a dark and far-reaching evil, his kids Meg and Charles (Deric McCabe) along with Meg's classmate, Calvin, set out on an adventure to save him. To aid them are Mrs. Whatsit, Mrs. Which (Oprah Winfrey), Mrs. Who (Mindy Kaling), Red (Michael Peña), the Happy Medium (Zach Galifianakis), and Alex's wife, Dr. Kate Murry (Gugu Mbatha-Raw). Directed by Ava DuVernay (Selma), this is the second time Disney has adapted the book, the first time being an ABC television movie in 2003.
