Host Jimmy Kimmel got a few good zingers at last night's 90th Oscars ceremony, but the show could've been even funnier if The Lonely Island had been involved.

According to the comedy musical trio of Andy Samberg, Akiva Schaffer, and Jorma Taccone, they were asked to write a song for the Academy Awards. What they came up with was a little ditty called "Why Not Me?" It features a bunch of blockbuster characters like Thor, Wonder Woman, and Pennywise wondering why the Academy ignores big-budget movies for the bigger awards.

"Horror movies always get the shaft," complains poor Pennywise, who just wants to raise his insurance premiums so he can fix his snaggly teeth. This line was obviously written before Get Out took home the award for Best Original Screenplay. And why did All the Money in the World get a nomination? Those kidnappers only took one kid while Pennywise took hundreds!

Other cameos include Jason Momoa's Aquaman asking why he didn't get a nod since people in other movies aren't opposed to engaging in intercourse with dudes from the sea. He's got a point because Guillermo del Toro's The Shape of Water did end up winning four Oscars, including Best Director and Best Picture

Perhaps the best part of the song is Chrises Hemsworth, Pratt, Evans, Pine, and Rock lobbying for a new category for "Best Chris." Sadly, we'll never get to see them do a Chris roll call.

The entire thing was supposedly considered way too complicated (not to mention expensive) to make. Even so, that didn't stop the group from posting on YouTube a rough idea of what the musical number would have looked like, and we've embedded it below for your viewing pleasure.

"We were asked to write a song for this year’s Academy Awards," the group wrote in the caption of the video. "Unfortunately, it wasn’t chosen because it was 'financially and logistically impossible,' so for fun we thought we’d share the rough storyboards of what would have been a fully shot, star-studded music video of exorbitant cost. All vocals and visuals are temp, so please use your imagination and enjoy!"

As you can see, this SNL Digital Short type of project would have included a ton of A-list celebrities, which would have been a scheduling nightmare. Plus, they would all have to be in costume and makeup and there would surely have to be some sort of Roger Rabbit-esque agreement between studios for Marvel and DC heroes to crossover with one another, even in a spoof.

The Lonely Island are responsible for such classics as "D-- in a Box", "Ji-- in My Pants", "I'm on a Boat", "Like a Boss", "I Just Had Sex", "Jack Sparrow", and "YOLO".
