Evangeline Lilly has been stumping for the all-female Avengers film since her latest foray into the MCU, Ant-Man and the Wasp, hit theaters over the summer. Now, with her interest clearly expressed, she’s considering what it would take for her to branch out from Scott Lang and fight some crime (or kill Thanos) on her own.
Apparently, it’d have to be very special circumstances. According to Comicbook.com, the actress spoke at Fan Expo Boston over the weekend on the topic of a solo movie, but was more concerned with staying true to the canon - unless Marvel decided to put their money where their feminist mouths were. “I would do anything I was told,” Lilly said in regards to the standalone, because “I like the MCU and I’d like to stay.”
However, her preferences go along with the characters. “But I actually don’t like the idea of a Wasp standalone film, because Ant-Man and Wasp, since the very beginning in the comic books, were always a team. And really, they’re kind of one of the only proper and true teams in the MCU, otherwise it’s mostly a lot of individuals. And I love the team aspect of it, I love watching the interplay between Wasp and Ant-Man and Ant-Man and the Wasp. For me it’s the most fun part of the film.”
That said...what if Captain Marvel called all the superladies of the MCU together for an adventure? “So I don’t love the idea of breaking them up — except if there was an all-female Avengers film,” Lilly said. “Then I’m in.” Lang’s got as much loyalty as can be expected under the circumstances, but with Marvel waiting until Captain Marvel to have its first female-fronted superhero film, an all-female squad movie seems like far too rare an opportunity to pass up.
Avengers 4 will set the next phase of the MCU up on May 3, 2019.
