Unless you were among the lucky few in Hall H at San Diego Comic-Con (or caught a peek at that shoddy cell phone leak that followed), you still haven’t seen a bit of Batman v Superman. But that’s apparently going to change soon.
It’s being reported by Latino Review that the first teaser trailer for the eagerly anticipated Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice will debut theatrically with the troubled sci-fi epic Jupiter Ascending. The teaser will apparently be something new, and not the clip shown at SDCC. If you’re looking to set your calendar now, the film opens Feb. 6, 2015.
In case you’re unfamiliar, Jupiter Ascending is a sci-fi flick starring Channing Tatum as a weird-eared alien and Mila Kunis as a space princess. It’s directed by Matrix masterminds the Wachowskis. The film was supposed to open last year, though the studio bumped it to allow some additional time for editing and effects work.
So #BatmanvSuperman teaser trailer drops with JUPITER ASCENDING next month. Finally.— Umberto Gonzalez (@elmayimbe) January 8, 2015
So, is it true? It’s certainly possible. Though production has been a bit shaky with the delay, Jupiter Ascending is still a very big (and likely very expensive) wanna-be tentpole sci-fi film. But it’s kind of shaping up to look like a flop for Warner Bros. (see: the Wachowskis' track record in everything post-Matrix). How do you save it? Batman to the rescue.
The fan base certainly crosses over, and the desire to see Batman and Superman for the first time together on the big screen — albeit for just 1-2 minutes — would likely sell a lot of tickets for a film that hasn’t been promoted terribly well and could use a shot in the arm on the home stretch toward its opening.
Would the addition of a Dawn of Justice trailer make you more likely to see Jupiter Ascending in the theater?
