Maggie Greene may be one of the most beloved characters on AMC’s The Walking Dead. Appearing in all but the show’s very first season, she’s certainly one of its longest-lasting. But the rising star power of Lauren Cohan, who plays Maggie on the hit series, may be enough to finally pull her away from the show at the end of its eighth and current season, possibly leaving Dead fans coming to terms with yet another key character loss.

According to Deadline’s Nellie Andreeva, who’s linking the dots during the TV networks’ early-year scramble to lock down pilot shows, Cohan’s name has appeared in connection with numerous projects — potentially creating a bidding war that could lure her away from her role on The Walking Dead for the already announced Season 9.

“[O]ne surprising name has stood out, The Walking Dead star Lauren Cohan,” Andreeva writes. “The actress, who plays Maggie on the hit AMC zombie drama, has been very sought after with close to half-dozen offers so far.”

The increased interest in Cohan comes just as she’s finishing out her present contract with AMC, creating an opportunity for her either to renegotiate a better deal to stay on as Maggie — or to test new waters while inking a higher-profile (and potentially more lucrative) role elsewhere.

Nothing’s certain yet, but we’re definitely keeping a close eye on how it all shakes out. For now, you can catch Cohan back in action as Maggie, when The Walking Dead returns to AMC on Feb. 25.
