The first trailer for Pet Sematary launches tomorrow, but to give us chills in the meantime Paramount Pictures has released the first official poster and a handful of images from the upcoming Stephen King adaptation.

Directed by Kevin Kölsch and Dennis Widmyer (Starry Eyes), this new adaptation of Stephen King's terrifying novel about a family from rural Maine beset on all sides by tragedy boasts a terrific cast, including Jason Clarke (Dawn of the Planet of the Apes), John Lithgow (The Crown), and Amy Seimetz (The Killing) and promises an updated look at one of the creepiest King stories ever told.

The novel was already adapted once in 1989 by director Mary Lambert, but since we're living in a particularly robust King renaissance right now, it makes sense that someone else would take a crack at it.

The photos, which you can see below, give us a better look at the Creed family before everything descends into madness for them, including domestic scenes around the dinner table and encounters with their new neighbor Jud (Lithgow). Then the darkness creeps in, their cat Church rises from the dead, and an even greater tragedy strikes, hinted at both by a photo of Rachel (Seimetz) embracing her son and by a photo of Louis (Clarke) and Jud standing in the dark, preparing to bury a cat at a very familiar site.

Paramount also released the first poster (above), featuring a killer tagline.

The first trailer for Pet Sematary will arrive at 9 a.m. EST on Wednesday, according to a Paramount press release. Prepare to be terrified.
