Start your engines, because the first trailer for Mad Max: Fury Road isn't holding back.

It's been nearly 30 years since the last Mad Max movie, Beyond Thunderdome, and three years since writer/director George Miller began production on Fury Road, after decades of development hell. For a very long time it seemed we'd never see a Mad Max 4, but Fury Road is real, and it's hitting theaters next year. At San Diego Comic-Con this week, Miller and Warner Bros. Pictures unveiled the film's first trailer to a Hall H crowd who absolutely went nuts for it, and now it's online for all to see.

So, is it as awesome as the Comic-Con audience led us to believe? Oh, hell yeah.

It's clear Miller hasn't lost his touch for practical car-chase madness, and with Fury Road he seems to be truly taking his powers into overdrive. The crashes, explosions and stunts displayed here are top-notch awesome, but there's also a beauty to it, from the overhead shot of the flares popping over the desert to the lonely view Max has in the opening seconds. If this footage is indicative of the rest of the film, this could be one of the best genre flicks of 2015.

Mad Max: Fury Road stars Tom Hardy, Charlize Theron and Nicholas Hoult, and roars into theaters on May 15, 2015. After seeing this, that can't get here soon enough.
