Revealed! Here's who Marvel is putting up against Batman/Superman

Now we know which Marvel superhero movie is going to go head to head with the Batman/Superman film in May 2016.

As reported just a short time ago, Marvel president Kevin Feige refused to back down from a May 6, 2016, release date for one of the studio's Phase 3 releases, even though sticking to that date would put it head to head with Warner Bros./DC's blockbuster Batman/Superman teamup.

Marvel had claimed the date first, but Warner Bros. decided to move Batman/Superman there from its original July 2015 release -- setting the stage for a box-office showdown between the two comic-book empires.

While Feige did not divulge the name of the movie Marvel was planning to put in that slot, the Hollywood Reporter has learned from sources at the studio that it will in fact be Captain America 3.

That will set Steve Rogers on a direct collision course with Bruce Wayne and Kal-El to see who can claim the biggest chunk of change that weekend from both comic-book diehards and average moviegoers.

There are a couple of things to note here: first, Captain America: The Winter Soldier -- which opens in just three weeks -- does lay the groundwork for both The Avengers: Age of Ultron and Cap 3

Second, directors Anthony and Joe Russo and screenwriters Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely all confirmed at the movie's press junket this week that they are already having meetings on the storyline for Cap 3 -- which indicates that the movie is on a fast track to production.

So if the Reporter's sources are correct and neither side blinks (and there have already been rumors that Batman/Superman could move up its release a week earlier), then we'll have the First Avenger and the World's Finest squaring off in the superhero box-office bout of the decade.

Who do you think will prevail?
