Richard E. Grant fanboys over his role in Star Wars: Episode IX

You know we love a good fan moment. With the films and TV shows of many a childhood being revived in recent years, actors are often given fan moments of their own -- which is exactly what happened when Richard E. Grant found out he'd be joining the cast of Star Wars Episode IX.

Last week, Star Wars: Episode IX began filming, and a few new faces (along with some familiar ones) were added to the Star Wars universe including Keri Russell (The Americans), Naomi Ackie (Lady Macbeth), and Richard E. Grant (Logan, Game of Thrones, Doctor Who).

As most humans would be, Grant is very excited about his role. So the moment he was allowed to talk about it, he took to social media to share his enthusiastism. It's pretty obvious in the video below just how stoked he is, since he can't stop smiling and even pumps his hand in the air at the end.

As Grant mentioned in the clip, he had no idea he even auditioned for Star Wars, since they keep info so tightly under wraps. Can you imagine trying out for what you think is just some standard movie role, and then getting the call that J.J. Abrams wants to meet with you? And then to have him ask you directly if you'd like to join Star Wars? Yes, please. Sounds like a dream come true, and we'd probably all have the same reaction as Grant.

Although we have no idea who Grant will play in the film yet, there have already been some great theories floating across the galaxy. Who do you think Grant will play in Episode IX?

Star Wars: Episode IX soars into theaters Dec. 20, 2019.
