If you were hoping for some light comedy in the long-awaited Season 3 of Adult Swim's animated sci-fi sitcom Rick and Morty, you may have to wait another couple of years for Season 4 to finally drop, because this season is apparently going dark.
"Welcome to the darkest year of our adventure," says alcoholic scientific genius Rick Sanchez in the new Season 3 trailer below, which co-creators Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland just released during a live stream, along with the welcome news of a July 30 premiere date.
Fans have been waiting for that date since Season 2 wrapped in October of 2015, making some question if perhaps Harmon and Roiland's relationship had deteriorated. Why? Well, Harmon's June 24th Tweets probably explain it best: “Because it’s a less boring reason for a season to take long ... and because I’m Dan Harmon, so it’s a smart f—ing first guess, it just happens to be hilariously not true even in the slightest.”
However, Judging by the new trailer, Season 3 promises to be truly hilarious. So let's put all those infighting rumors to rest, savor this bonkers new trailer, and revel in the fact that new episodes are but a month away, shall we?
