Now this is fan-made short filmmaking at its finest. Want to know what happened in the years between Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight and the recent Dark Knight Rises? This dark, cinematic short dubbed Batman: Puppet Master does a pretty good job of tackling the question.

Directed by Bryan Nest and written by Chris Wiltz, the short film puts its own very unique spin on Edward Nigma (aka the Riddler), imagined here as an FBI agent sent to Gotham to find the Batman, following the death of Harvey Dent.

Oddly enough, what this short gets right sounds almost counterintuitive—it doesn't focus all that much on Batman. Instead, it's the story of Nigma, and some thugs working for Scarface who join in on the hunt.

Batman does pop up to do a little butt-kicking, of course, and it's just enough to leave you wanting more.
