Ridley Scott is keen to tie the prequel film Prometheus into the Alien mythology, and now we know who will take on the starring role in Alien: Covenant.
According to Deadline, Katherine Waterston (Inherent Vice, Steve Jobs) has been cast to star in Covenant as the character Daniels. We don't know a ton about the plot, but the film will reportedly bring back the android David (Michael Fassbender) as the sole survivor on a dark, dangerous planet. Waterston’s character will (apparently) be a crew member of the colony ship Covenant, which stumbles upon the mystery planet.
Waterston is a relatively fresh up-and-comer, and this will mark her most high-profile gig to date. As far as the franchise is concerned, she’ll also be joining a lineup of leading heroines founded by Sigourney Weaver and (more recently) Noomi Rapace. As for Rapace, there’s no word on whether her character from Prometheus will return.
Considering Scott wants to crank out a few more Alien/Prometheus films over the next few years, it’s possible Waterston could be sticking around for a while as a part of the franchise. Here’s hoping Scott just makes something a bit more coherent than Prometheus.
