DC's Legends of Tomorrow has turned into one heck of a fun series this year, and now the captain is about to get back on the ship.

Just not how you'd expect.

The network has dropped a new trailer for "Raiders of the Lost Art," the midseason premiere of Legends of Tomorrow. The story is all about the return of Rip Hunter (Arthur Darvill), who finally made an appearance in the closing moments of the midseason finale as a hapless film director. As we learn in the new footage here, Rip has actually been brainwashed by the Legion of Doom. It's a fun look for Darvill, who gets to channel a bit of his fish-out-of-water skills from his early days of Doctor Who.

With Rip sidelined for the first part of the season, the rest of the Legends have really gotten a chance to shine. Sara (Caity Lotz) has taken charge of the team and really grown in a lot of ways, and even without the man who put them together, the time-traveling heroes have really found their footing. Figuring out how Rip fits back into the mix now that the team has largely moved on should be half the fun. You know, assuming they manage to unscramble his brain.

Legends of Tomorrow returns Jan. 24 on The CW. Check out the trailer below and let us know what you think:
