A good number of us at SYFY FANGRRLS are pretty big fans of Riverdale. It may be cuckoo-bananas, but it's exactly the right blend of cuckoo-bananas mixed with doesn't-take-itself-too-seriously and classic-teen-drama that somehow hooks us to ensure we come back and watch each and every single Wednesday.
This week's episode, "The Noose Tightens," culminated in the announcement of Riverdale High's production of Carrie: The Musical (directed by Kevin Keller), as well as Cheryl Blossom unceremionously declaring that she would be playing the titular role of Carrie White, of course.
Thanks to a previously posted tweet from Riverdale showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa (who, as it turns out, wrote the 2013 film adaptation of Stephen King's novel starring Chloë Grace Moretz), we already have our first look at which characters have been cast in the upcoming school musical:
That's some pretty perfect casting right there. Betty's mom Alice as Mrs. White? Veronica as popular girl Chris Hargensen? Archie and Betty as Carrie's kinda-friends Tommy Ross and Sue Snell? And yes, we can admit that Cheryl-as-Carrie is actually very brilliant in its execution. This upcoming musical will definitely be an episode to remember on Riverdale.
Check out this first look at the episode in the trailer below, and be sure not to miss "A Night to Remember" when it premieres on the CW on Wednesday, April 18 at 8/7c.
