Marvel has never been afraid to mix it up with writers from different media, and now the publisher is bringing in a kid-friendly horror legend to helm the new-look Man-Thing.

Marvel has officially tapped R.L. Stine (Goosebumps, Fear Street) to write a new Man-Thing, with art by German Peralta (Moon Knight, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.). The publisher promises a “tale full of action, horror, humor and heart.” The series will follow Man-Thing once he has regained his ability to speak and sets out to leave the swamp. But, this being comics, not everything goes as planned. Man-Thing will face an ancient threat that could break reality itself.

“I’m going to do a lot of action and a lot of great violence and make it creepy, but I’m going to make it funny at the same time. It’s what I try to do in my books… My first ambition was to be a comic book artist. I started doing these little comic books in the fourth grade: ‘Super Stooge,’ the dumbest hero on earth. I was terrible. I had no choice but to be a writer.”

The first issue of Man-Thing hits shelves in March 2017.
