Rob Zombie has confirmed rumors that have been swirling around for several months that his new movie is a sequel to his 2005 horror hit, The Devil's Rejects.
With the shoot getting underway today (Mar. 13), the-musician-turned-filmmaker took to social media to post a photo of his director's chair, saying, "It's all true" and revealing the name of the picture as well: 3 From Hell.
The "3" no doubt refers to the three members of the evil Firefly family -- Captain Spaulding (Sid Haig), Baby (Sheri Moon Zombie, Rob's wife) and Otis (Bill Moseley) -- who were first introduced in Zombie's directorial debut, 2003's House of 1,000 Corpses, but took center stage in 2005's The Devil's Rejects.
The end of that movie, however, saw the murderous threesome go down in a barrage of bullets from a literal army of cops, so the "From Hell" part of the new title indicates that there could be an otherworldly component involved in their return (unless he's found some other way to explain them escaping alive).
While House of 1,000 Corpses hinted at some supernatural aspects to its story, The Devil's Rejects was much grounded in realism (almost sickeningly so). This new entry could be bringing the Firefly freaks back to their ghastly roots.
Zombie has said in the past that he had no interest in making a follow-up to The Devil's Rejects, but that film is widely considered his best and was something of a sleeper hit, so it's not exactly shocking that he would revisit that territory again.
Zombie's other pictures include the 2007 Halloween remake and its 2009 sequel, along with 2012's The Lords of Salem and 2016's partially crowdfunded 31. That last movie was distributed through Saban Films and Lionsgate, with whom Zombie is reportedly negotiating again to pick up 3 From Hell.
Are you a fan of Zombie's movies? Do you think a sequel to The Devil's Rejects is the way for him to go?
