Robert Pattison, who gained Twihard fame as vampire Edward Cullen in the Twilight franchise, is returning to genre in two upcoming projects, The Lighthouse, a fantasy horror film, and High Life, a sci-fi thriller.
According to Deadline, Robert Eggers (The Witch) has found his next horrifying project, teaming up with A24 and RT Features for The Lighthouse, "a fantasy horror story set in the world of old sea-faring myths" which begins filming this spring. The film is written by Eggers and Max Eggers, and will be distributed by A24, the same company behind The Witch.
Details on exactly what The Lighthouse is about are scarce, but in a statement, A24 said, "This new script blew us away — it creates a totally unique and ambitious universe and manages to somehow feel scary, suspenseful, wondrous and beautiful all at the same time." But it's unknown exactly what role Pattinson will play in The Lighthouse, which will also star William Defoe as "an aging lighthouse keeper," according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Pattinson also recently wrapped High Life, a sci-fi thriller directed by Claire Denis, where, according to The Hollywood Reporter, "a father and his daughter struggle to survive in deep space."
In 2012 (the year the final Twilight film was released) Pattison was one of the biggest stars in genre. So it's kind of hard to believe he is just now making his return to our favorite fare, but we're happy to have him back.
