If you thought the days of sparkling vampires and longing looks that could only be born of supernatural teen romance were over, well, you’re right. But that doesn’t mean that the Twilight phenomenon has completely disappeared, nor has the outside chance of a sequel installment. As we near the tenth anniversary of the first film installment adapted from Stephenie Meyer’s bestselling book series, there’s sure to be plenty of nostalgia, even from the franchise’s male lead.
Robert Pattinson, who rose to superstardom over the course of The Twilight Saga, remains good-natured about the whole experience. The actor, who is taking the arthouse film world by storm, is currently promoting his new sci-fi film High Life, but he wasn’t hesitant to jump back on Team Edward to address Twilight. He joked with Variety that he “stopped mentally progressing around the time when I started doing those movies, so it feels like not a day has passed.”
Although Pattinson has managed to escape being typecast as a teenage heartthrob, and has shown off his dramatic range over recent years in films like The Lost City of Z (2016) and Good Time (2017), he hasn’t packed away the fangs of Edward entirely, at least not in terms of getting a good chuckle out of it.
When asked about revisiting Twilight, Pattinson said, “I was literally talking to my agent about it. The amount of time I spend moisturizing, I am ready to play 17 at a moment’s notice. I’ve got the Botox out,” before breaking into laughter.
With the tenth anniversary of Twilight coming this October, perhaps a reunion could be in store. Someone wants that, right?
