Yesterday, we posted a rare and fascinating interview from Star Trek's very first captain, the late Jeffrey Hunter, who played Christopher Pike. Today we have another rare item to share with you: This time it's an old pic featuring Hunter all dressed up as Pike and another certain important someone.

This very rare photo shows Hunter holding a model of the original starship Enterprise. The tall man with the dark sunglasses beside him? Well, it's none other than the Great Bird of the Galaxy himself, Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry. Roddenberry was apparently showing the model of the Enterprise to Hunter. It was taken during the filming of the very first Star Trek pilot, "The Cage," in December of 1964.

We think this picture is actually quite fascinating, and not only because it's rare.

It's a snapshot in time, capturing two men who probably had no idea at the time how Star Trek would later come to shape our world and break social boundaries. It's just profoundly sad to know that Hunter never got to see how Star Trek became one of sci-fi's most iconic and groundbreaking shows.
