Rogue One: A Star Wars Story’s Diego Luna is in talks to star in Sony Pictures' re-imagining (aka remake) of Flatliners, the 1990 sci-fi movie that starred Julia Roberts, Kiefer Sutherland, Kevin Bacon, William Baldwin and Oliver Platt, The Wrap reports.
If Luna signs on the dotted line, he'll star alongside Ellen Page (Inception), who’s been confirmed for the new movie set to be helmed by Niels Arden Oplev (Mr. Robot, The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo), with a screenplay by Ben Ripley (Source Code). The movie will be produced by Laurence Mark and Michael Douglas.
Directed by Joel Schumaker, the original Flatliners followed four medical students (Roberts, Sutherland, Bacon and Baldwin) as they start to experiment with near-death experiences (on themselves, no less) involving past tragedies, until the dark consequences begin to endanger their lives.
The new movie is said to feature an inclusive and international cast that will feature a core cast of two men and three women instead of a foursome of three men and a woman.
The new Flatliners movie is now in preproduction and is expected to begin filming in July of this year. There is no release date scheduled the sci-fi thriller yet.
Diego Luna will be seen on a mission to steal the plans for the Death Star in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story on Dec. 16, 2016. He’s also set to star alongside Mel Gibson in Blood Father and dystopian love story The Bad Batch.
