Ron Howard knows how to work an audience. He also knows Star Wars fans are hungry for news. So, what does he do? He gives them news. In this case, he confirms the presence of the Empire in The Untitled Han Solo Movie.
It may not be earth shattering when you consider that Han Solo has had dealings with the Empire before, so it would make sense he'd tussle with them here, but it's a hint and hints are good. The pictures he shares are all like that. They're glimpses. Tantalizing glimpses, sure, but they don't tell you much and they leave a lot of room for extrapolation, sort of like this picture John Boyega dropped the other day.
Howard's transition into the director's chair for this film happened in a very public manner and, while Star Wars films have been known to be shrouded in secrecy, Howard's roots as a child star and actor may be the guiding force behind his decision to share more than a few hints with fans via social media.
After all, a good performer knows that you have to give the audience a little something from time to time to keep them interested. So, he shares behind the scenes photos and videos of old speeders, or banquet scenes, or a crane shot. Or, in this case, an Imperial helmet on a control console that looks vaguely familiar.
Let the speculation run wild.
Howard has also been on a mission to reach two million followers on Twitter. He did it, so here's a little BTS footage at Pinewood.
Whatever he's up to, it definitely seems to be working so here's hoping he continues dropping these little hints in the months to come.
