It looks as though Jon Favreau will be in the upcoming Solo: A Star War Story film. Or at least, his voice will be. As he has been known to do when doling out information on this project, director Ron Howard has taken to Twitter to confirm that he has enlisted the voice acting talents of Iron Man director Favreau for the upcoming Han Solo spinoff film.
Earlier this month, Favreau posted a photo of himself, along with Solo’s director Howard and screenwriter Lawrence Kasdan on Twitter with the cryptic message: “@RealRonHoward and Lawrence Kasdan #starwars #solo”
Well, today, Howard posted the same photo on his Twitter feed, with the accompanying tweet: “Wondering why we r all together? @Jon_Favreau is voicing a very cool & important alien character for #HanSolo Flattered & fortunate I could pull him away from his #LionKing directing duties”
As Howard noted, Favreau is directing a photo-realistic CGI remake of the animated Disney film from 1994, scheduled for release on July 19, 2019.
This nugget is part-and-parcel with Howard dropping hints and goodies from the movie’s set via Twitter since taking over as director of the project over the summer—mostly in the form of teaser photos that don’t reveal anything about the film’s story.
For example, Howard posted this picture on new Year’s:
Do we know what that's a steering wheel to? No. Does it still make us pumped to see the film? Of course.
No word on what this “very cool & important alien character” Favreau will be playing—as of this writing, Favreau is not listed on the film’s IMDB page, and representatives for Howard and Favreau could not be reached for comment. But we’re guessing it’s not Chewbacca.
Solo, the second Star Wars stand-alone film after Rogue One, is set to hit theatres May 25.
