Ron Howard drops new teaser for Solo: A Star Wars Story with cockpit snapshot

We're nearly five months away from the release of Solo: A Star Wars Story and there's still no trailer, but don't worry about that. Since he took over directorial duties during the summer, Ron Howard has continued to drop bits and pieces from the movie's set on Twitter, alluding to major plot points, locations, and characters while giving almost nothing away. The man's a genius at whetting fans' appetites.

As a New Year's gift to diehards, he released a new sneak peek on Twitter — this one of a vehicle that will be featured in the movie.

"Happy New Year from Team #Solo. We’re pretty pumped for 2018," wrote Howard.

There's no way of knowing what this vehicle looks like or who's piloting it, but judging from the steering wheel, you get a serious throwback vibe. If we had to compare it to something, we'd say it was a Nintendo Entertainment System welded onto the console of some kind of landspeeder. With the exposed wiring in the periphery, one might guess that Han has just stolen and hot-wired an escape vessel that doesn't belong to him. Still, it's all conjecture at this point — but no harm in thinking up (very possible) theories, right?

Howard also provided an update on the film's status, saying it's currently being edited, while praising Rian Johnson and the whole crew of The Last Jedi after seeing Episode VIII in December. News also broke this past week that John Williams would be writing Solo's main theme, with composer John Powell (How to Train Your Dragon) handling the rest of the score.

As we get closer to May 25 — which is a lot closer this side of the new year — you can probably expect a trailer or at least a small teaser to drop soon. Odds are good that Disney is planning to attach a preview with the release of next month's highly anticipated Black Panther.
