Although several familiar faces will be reappearing in the long-awaited X-Men: Dark Phoenix when it premieres later this year, one in particular will be sitting out the latest adventure.
Speaking to CinemaBlend at the Peter Rabbit press junket, Rose Byrne confirmed that her character Moira MacTaggert, CIA agent and erstwhile love interest of Professor X, won't be returning for the upcoming installment of the newest X-Men film series.
"Unfortunately, Moira is not showing up. I wish she was. I had such fun on X-Men: Apocalypse. I love that cast. It is a really fun, what do you call it? Superhero film ... ensemble exactly. I can't wait to see what [Jessica Chastain] does, cause I'm such a fan."
On the one hand, it makes sense that the character won't be appearing in Dark Phoenix given that the situation is going to get much more intense regarding Jean Grey (Sophie Turner)'s evolving and undisciplined relationship to the Phoenix Force. That aside, last we saw Moira MacTaggert in the franchise, she had already moved on with her life -- and a new family -- in X-Men: Apocalypse. The character initially appeared in X-Men: First Class, but Byrne did not reprise the role for X-Men: Days of Future Past.
For the time being, it appears that Moira MacTaggert's role working with the X-Men is coming to a close -- and perhaps that's for the best.
X-Men: Dark Phoenix is slated for a Nov. 2 release.
