There’ve been rumblings over Doctor Strange casting for months now, and it seems another actor has joined Marvel's mysterious short list.
This Is Infamous is reporting that Jack Huston (Boardwalk Empire, Outlander) is now “in the running” to play the Sorcerer Supreme in Marvel’s eagerly anticipated — though technically still unannounced — Doctor Strange film. He joins a rumor mill that includes Benedict Cumberbatch (Sherlock), Jon Hamm (Mad Men), Joaquin Phoenix (Her) and a few others.
Though we should take it all with a grain of salt at the moment, Huston is a talented guy who's trending up in popularity — which definitely fits the Marvel mold. He has several movies in the works, including a role in Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. Plus, he’s just 31 years old, meaning he’s young enough to stick around for a potential decade or so of standalone and spinoff movies.
The original report indicates Huston’s late entry into the running could mean he’s a strong contender, or even a lock, assuming things didn’t work out with the other actors on the list. Of course, this being Marvel, the secrecy level could be so high that in fact Huston is up for a different role in the film, or something completely unrelated. Or, you know, nothing at all.
What do you think of Huston? Does he have the chops to pull off Doctor Strange?
