We’d heard a while back that Joss Whedon had his sights set on Saoirse Ronan to play Scarlet Witch in Avengers: Age of Ultron, but she has reportedly passed on the gig. So who’s up next?

According to a report at Bleeding Cool, Marvel is eyeing Elizabeth Olsen (Godzilla, Silent House) to take on the iconic comic role. Per the report, she'll also have to adopt a “European accent.” If this one turns out to be true, Olsen would join rumored Quicksilver actor Aaron Taylor-Johnson (Kick-Ass) as a newcomer to the blockbuster franchise.

We’d been hearing that Whedon wanted to go fairly young for Scarlet Witch, and the 24-year-old Olsen would fit the bill. Though she shares a last name with her child-star-turned-fashion designer sisters Mary Kate and Ashley, Elizabeth has proven herself a solid actress — and with Whedon at the helm she could definitely bring a unique angle to the role.

Of course, all of this is just a rumor at this point, but you’d have to think Marvel is getting deep into casting by now. The company likes to stay a step or two ahead, and locking in the new characters would fit with their modus operandi.

What do you think? Would you like to see Olsen as the newest addition to The Avengers?
